Therapy Approaches
Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidenced based trauma treatment approach that aims to help people process and overcome traumatic experiences. The therapy involves using bilateral stimulation, which can include eye movements, sounds, or taps, to help the brain reprocess memories and reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic experiences. The goal is to help the individual process the trauma in a safe and controlled way, leading to a reduction in symptoms such as anxiety and flashbacks.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT stands for Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is a type of therapy that is specifically designed to help children, adolescents, and their families cope with and recover from the effects of traumatic events. The therapy combines cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques, which focus on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors, with trauma-focused interventions that help individuals process and manage traumatic experiences. The therapy is typically conducted over several sessions and may involve individual, family, or group therapy sessions. The goal of TF-CBT is to help individuals and families develop coping skills and resilience, reduce symptoms related to trauma, and improve overall well-being.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS is an integrative approach where the focus is to understand and work with different parts or sub-personalities within an individual psyche. IFS focuses on the relationships between parts and the core Self. The goal of therapy is to create a cooperative and trusting relationship between the Self and each part.
Brainspotting (BSP)
Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique that helps individuals access and process unresolved trauma, emotions, and physical pain stored in the brain and body. The technique involves using eye positions and focused attention to identify and release stored traumatic memories and emotions. By focusing on the specific "brainspot" where the person's eye position activates a particular area of the brain, the therapist can help the individual access and process unresolved trauma and emotions. The goal is to help the person achieve greater emotional regulation, reduce symptoms related to trauma, and improve overall well-being.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT is an evidenced based approach that focuses on four main skill areas: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Through DBT, individuals learn how to manage their emotions, communicate effectively, and cope with difficult situations. The goal of DBT is to help individuals achieve a better quality of life and improve their overall functioning.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) CBT is a type of talk therapy that focuses on helping individuals identify and change negative or unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. The therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected, and that by changing one, we can positively affect the others.
Expressive Therapies (play therapy, sand-tray and art)
The goal of these therapies is to help individuals express and process difficult emotions in a safe and supportive environment, leading to improved emotional regulation and overall well-being.
